The Olive Rock

And here are the photographs I was talking about when I posted the other sea pictures. Let's say they're those, among all my shots, I prefer, maybe beacuse I saw them printed and I really like them. I was in Palmi, Reggio Calabria, in August 2012. It was the first day of the year with rough sea, so I decided that bringing my Nikon would not be a bad idea; I'd say it's been useful! Ed ecco qui, queste sono le foto di cui parlavo quando ho pubblicato le altre immagini del mare. Diciamo che sono quelle che, fra tutti i miei scatti, preferisco in assoluto, forse perchè le ho viste stampate e mi piacciono un sacco. Ero a Palmi, un paese in provincia di Reggio Calabria, nell'Agosto 2012. Era la prima giornata dell'anno in cui c'era il mare mosso, mi sembra, quindi ho deciso che magari portare la Nikon non sarebbe stata proprio una cattiva idea; direi che è servita! In these two photographs there's the "Rock of the Olive", because of the olive tree that's been growing up there. It's also known for the hole in that it has in the middle. If you go there in the right period of the year, it could be perfect for sunset pictures.

In queste due foto, lo scoglio che vedete si chiama "Scoglio dell'Ulivo", proprio per via dell'albero di ulivo che è cresciuto la sopra. Oltre che per questo, è caratterizzato anche dal buco al centro. Se si va nel giusto periodo dell'anno, può essere perfetto per le foto al tramonto. 

The Wall

When I took these pictures, again in August 2012, I was safely reading a book on my balcony. I looked up and saw this wonderful sunset and told myself I couldn't ignore it, so since from my house you can admire a stupid light pole in the way, I just ran out of the door with my Nikon in hand, climbed up a wall and took these shots. The only one I like is this one up here, whith the trees underneath. Which one do you prefer? If you like them, obviously.

Quando ho fatto queste foto, di nuovo nell'Agosto 2012, Stavo tranquillamente leggendo un libro sul balcone. Ho alzato lo sguardo, ho visto questo stupendo tramonto e ho deciso che non lo potevo ignorare, quindi visto che da casa mia la vista è rovinata da un palo della luce in mezzo, sono corsa fuori di casa prima che il sole tramontasse completamente e mi sono arrampicata su un muro con la Nikon in mano. L'unica che mi piace è questa qua sopra, con gli alberi in basso. Quale preferite? Sempre che vi piacciono, ovviamente. 

The Lifeguard (Il Bagnino)

This picture was taken in Scilla, famous seaside town in Calabria, last August. I like it because of the lifeguard that comes out of the water after having bravely saved the poor beach umbrella from the rough sea (I like to see it this way). He gives me the idea of a glorious hero at the end of a long and exausting battle. Doesn't he? What's more, Scilla's castle in the background helps creating the atmosphere. What do you think?

Questa foto è stata scattata a Scilla, famosa città balneare calabrese, ad Agosto dell'anno scorso. Mi piace per via del bagnino, appunto, che esce fuori dall'acqua dopo aver valorosamente salvato il povero ombrellone dal mare mosso (mi piace immaginarla così). Mi da l'idea di un eroe vittorioso alla fine di una lunga ed estenuante battaglia. In più, lo sfondo del castello di Scilla aiuta a creare l'atmosfera no? Che ne dite?

Queen, Innuendo

Finally, sea pictures. They're not the first I take, and definitely not the best, but I'll post the others further on. In the meantime, these are the most recent, of last week. The place isn't spectacular, but rough sea offers everyone the possibility to take some nice shots; so while my friends were lying in the sun, I sat down in the water near the quay, and tried my new Tamron lens 70-300. I leave you the judjments! Do you like them? What could I improve in? My problem is I still have to learn how to balance white, so maybe that's the flaw... What do you say?

Finalmente, foto del mare. Non sono le prime che faccio, e decisamente non sono le migliori, ma le altre le pubblicherò più avanti. Intanto, queste sono le più recenti, della settimana scorsa. Il posto non è niente di spettacolare, anzi, però il mare mosso offre a tutti la possibilità di fare qualche scatto; quindi mentre i miei amici prendevano il sole, mi sono messa seduta vicino al molo, in mezzo all'acqua, e ho provato il mio nuovo obiettivo Tamron 70-300. Lascio a voi i giudizi! Vi piacciono? Cosa avrei potuto migliorare? Il mio problema è che devo ancora imparare a bilanciare il bianco, quindi forse il difetto è questo. Che ne dite?

Love from Tropea

These are pictures from last summer, when I went to Tropea, in Calabria; I really loved this place. These are particular houses, built exactly on this kind of cliff, and there's an entire street of them, they're wonderful. It was just before lunch time, and the sunlight was very strong. I quite like these pictures.

Queste sono foto dell'estate scorsa, quando sono stata a Tropea, in Calabria; mi è piaciuta molto quella città. Queste sono delle case particolari, costruite esattamente sullo strapiombo, e ce n'è una via intera, sono stupende. Era poco prima di pranzo, e la luce del sole era molto forte. Mi piacciono queste foto.

Apart from the houses, I couldn't ignore Santa Maria dell'Isola Sanctuary (if my researches are right). known all around the world because of its peculiar position. It''s Tropea's simbol. It was a pity that we couldn't visit it, it was late in the afternoon when we came back from the beach, and it had already been closed. However, it was wonderful also from afar. 

Oltre alle case, ovviamente non potevo evitare di fotografare il Santuario Santa Maria dell'Isola (se le mie ricerche sono corrette), conosciuto in tutto il mondo appunto per la sua particolare posizione. E' il simbolo di Tropea. Peccato non averlo potuto visitare, era tardo pomeriggio quando siamo tornati dalla spiaggia  ed era già stato chiuso. Comunque è bellissimo anche da lontano. 

The evening as well offered us a gorgeous sight: sunset. In the first photo down here there's the viewpoint, where I found two newlyweds having pictures of themselves taken (my compliments for the chosen place), while in the last picture there's sunset, when the sun disappeared between the Sanctuary Isle and Stromboli.

Anche la sera, dopo cena, ci è stato offerto uno spettacolo meraviglioso: il tramonto. Quello nella foto qui sotto è il belvedere, dove ho trovato una coppia di novelli sposi che si faceva riprendere (mi complimento per la scelta del posto), mentre nell'ultima foto si vede il tramonto sul mare, quando il sole è sparito tra l'isola del Santuario e l'isola di Stromboli. 

Vi piacciono queste foto? Siete mai stati a Tropea? I consigli per migliorare sono tutti ben accetti, non sono una fotografa professionista e devo ancora imparare!

Grana Padano

And here is... cheese. Well, fake cheese. I don't really know wether these two photographs have some sense, but I really liked the light that the sun cast over these little pieces of cheese. Grana Padano, to be precise. Actually, I was quite in doubt about posting them too, but I couldn't help it in the end.

E qui abbiamo... formaggio. Beh, finto formaggio. Non so quanto senso possano avere queste due foto, ma mi piaceva tantissimo il gioco di colori creato dal sole in quel momento su quei piccoli pezzetti di formaggio, e le ho scattate. Grana Padano, siamo precisi. In realtà neanche sapevo se pubblicarle o meno, ma alla fine ho ceduto.

Camera and Guitar

Well, when I don't know what to do (and i'ts possible) I try taking some pictures, while this guy down here starts playing the moment he sees a guitar. Since there is one in my house, this is what came out of it. Eventhough it was quite hard convincing him, in the end I managed to immortalize him; he will never look at the camera, so this is the best that I could do. Let's hope someone likes them!

Allora, quando non so che fare (ed è possibile) cerco di fare foto, mentre questo baldo giovane qua appena vede una chitarra si mette a suonare. Dato che ce n'è una a casa mia, ecco il risultato. Nonostante sia stato faticoso convincerlo, alla fine sono riuscita a immortalarlo; non guarderà mai la macchina fotografica, quindi questo è il meglio che sarebbe potuto uscire (a me perlomeno). Speriamo piacciano a qualcuno!

Let's say I'm trying to learn how to play the guitar, but in the end I handle it about once or twice a month...

Diciamo che anch'io sto cercando di imparare a suonare la chitarra, ma fra una cosa e l'altra la prendo in mano si e no una o due volte al mese...
